Default ABS light..Rover 75 CDT

Hi,

My friends ABS light has started to come on intermittently, before I go chasing sensors, is this a common problem, loose wire etc. Can anyone recommend a diagnostic tool that doesn't cost the earth to track down faulty sensor?

Regards

David

Check the connectors under the seat, disconnect battery for 30 mins first unplug spray with electrical cleaner and re plug them with a little Vaseline on the pins , then keep them tight using a cable tie on each one,
Hope that helps mick

Simple voltmeter is all you need.

I have the same problem with mine, an odd ABS flash every now and again.

I asked about it at the last Midlands NANO MEET and the general consensus of opinion was that as its intermittent then it would be a nightmare to find.

Not sure if a T4 session would point you at the corner the error message is being generated from .

Yes David, and it's usually caused by a front wheel sensor wiring slipping out of the clip on the suspension strut and touching the tyre when the steering is on full lock.

So, jack up the car, remove the front wheels and inspect the wiring for damage. If the insulation has been eroded, you need to renew the sensor and tie-wrap it very securely to prevent a recurrence.

I have exactly this problem myself at the moment.

As a general rule the first sensor (if that is the fault) that plays up is usually the nearside front, I was told it is because that is the wheel that gets the most abuse from potholes and curbs etc etc.
