Thanks Bob, it hurts so much because it was so good. They are always with us, in our hearts and minds and absolutely nothing can take that away, nothing

Red face

Hope you're soon over the flu for Christmas and New Year so that you can enjoy the time.
This time of year is always difficult when special people are no longer with us to enjoy it, however, the treasured memories will live on.

All the best for 2023,

Martyn

I know how you must feel Bob, December 16th was my mum’s birthday and I won’t be in good Christmas feeling on Xmas day.
She passed away in August, but with her birthday only so near to Christmas, it will be a sad day for me, also my dad passed away at the start of December 2016, and was left to rest on about 3 days before Christmas, so feeling two who were a great parents.

Cool You know when you are ill…………………

………………………… when you don’t even want a pot of tea. Blooming cough has kept me awake all night, and if sneezing was an Olympic sport then I’ll be up for the gold.

Still my neighbours, and friends, have rallied round. If there is world shortage of Lemsip, honey and whiskey it’s with me.
I have no appetite, but am keeping hydrated. Loving the hot lemon and honey drinks with large, occasionally, whiskey.

Going to sleep in the chair this evening, as laying down starts me coughing.

Pass the tissues.

Thumbs up

Hope you're soon on the road to recovery. Got a bit of a sore throat myself at the moment, I'm hoping it's nothing.

Happy New Year

Default Flu?

Isn't that the illness retired pilots always suffer from?

Cool Blood pressure

On the 13th December last year I went for my yearly MOT at the doctors, also for my diabetes check up. My blood pressure was a little on the high side, it was taken three times but it remained in and around the same reading. Done the bloods and urine test. Had my feet checked for pulse and then had the “feeling” check where they stick a cocktail stick into various areas on the soles of your feet. I either close my eyes or in this case I studied a chart on the wall about looking after your heart.

On leaving the doctors the nurse said to me that she wanted to monitor my blood pressure over the next 7 days and to send the morning and evening results in. I have a blood pressure monitor at home. I explained that I was off to the Isle of Wight for my birthday weekend. “So take the machine with you”, was her curt reply. It was high for about three days till Allen explained to me what I was doing wrong. Then it settled down to around 140/50, some days it dropped to 125/79.

So today I was joining in on a zoom review with the nurse and a health administrator. This was to get my results from my health and diabetes check ups.
The nurse asked me if I had any side effects from my insect bite from July last year. I said that there was still a slight red patch there and occasionally my leg would swell up below the knee on the inside of my leg. But as it didn’t bother me I had bothered to do anything about it. Getting a appointment at the quacks was near impossible.

So the nurse has now referred me to a specialist to have a look at my leg as she thinks this has something to do with my fluctuating blood pressure. Only took them 6 months.
And I have signed up to the diabetes and weight management courses which are held in Liskeard every Wednesday.
My bloods are ok along with my water. My cholesterol is going up, and so is my weight. I still check my blood pressure twice daily and on average it is around the 140/50 mark. But the nurse still wants me to see the specialist.

I think I have now almost recovered from the flu, although occasionally I still have a coughing session, usually in the evening.
My friend Debbie has gone down with Covid, along with her brother. But there respectful partners have escaped it.
Neighbours across the road are also both unwell with the flu. So it’s my turn to do any running around should they need anything. Although there daughter lives around the corner. I have offered to take the dog for a walk but the daughter is doing that.

News from Portugal is that Elizabeth is finally on the mend, seems the sunny days are having a good effect. We spoke on the phone last weekend, and she was not out of breath at all. Her uncle Roger, and family, are now back in Brazil and he is rebuilding his empire. He was in the hotel and bar business.

Banana is behaving and is booked in tomorrow for a short service and her MOT.
Baby Black Banana is still running sweet. Done 3,000 miles so far.

Other than that all ok down here in the land of the pasty.

Meet up soon. Till then keep safe.

Cool I shouldn’t be allowed out on my own

Just before last Christmas I bought myself a new pair of slippers. Needed a sturdy pair that would be able to cope with going to either my recycling box/dustbin. Bought a pair in Tesco’s in Callington. They have the Velcro strap across the top and are really comfortable.

So last week whilst getting ready to go shopping, I decided to put my pumps on. Took one slipper off and whilst I was tying the lace the phone rang. You can guess the rest. I went shopping with one dark blue slipper and one black pump on. I only noticed when I was in the store. Talk about feeling foolish. I just carried on with my shopping as if nothing was wrong.

When I got home there was another odd pair in the porch .

So it’s been 5 years since the decision to sell the flat in Barkingside and move to Saltash, and I have had no regrets in doing so. I might venture up in March towards London. It’s my brother in laws birthday in the third week. And I have yet to meet my great nephew Damien. Plus I like to go and see my god daughter Kirra, and lives in Earls Colne. I’ll be taking the wee car. Too far for Banana, anyway she’s not to keen on the Car Park aka M25.

A few people have been impressed with Bananas new headlining, happy with the comments. Showed it off last Sunday at the CMGOC breakfast meet at Trevaskis Farm Restaurant.
Hotel booked with the club to visit Gaydon for the 100th anniversary meet of MG cars. I know there are a few members on here that are going. We are travelling up on the Friday via the helicopter museum in Weston SuperMare. Then onto the hotel.

Saturday we will visit Gaydon, Saturday evening we are meeting up for a meal together. Then Sunday we will convoy to Bourton on the Water for lunch before making our way home. I’m looking forward to it, love being with CMGOC. Absolutely one of the best single make car clubs I have ever had the pleasure of joining. I’m their official photographer. And I have also been asked to take some photo’s for publication in a North American MG Club. Feel quite chuffed to be asked. Seems my reputation goes before me.

I was asked to attend a diabetes course via zoom. I have had type 2 for over 17 years. Now this course was over 3 Wednesdays in a row. Starting at 10.00-Noon.
The first week I was late logging on as I had gone with Allen to collect Banana from the MOT station, and we got held up coming home.
The 2nd week I couldn’t log on for nearly an hour, I had to keep phoning the team leader to find out what was wrong. And turned out to be her fault as she had given out the wrong email address to everyone. So we was all late to the party.
3rd week, I had to wait 15 minutes before someone noticed I was waiting to join.

So what did I learn from this. Absolutely nothing, all they went on about is the same thing they tell me every year. When I was first diagnosed with Type 2, I went on a course called DESMOND. Given lots of books to read. Whenever I go for my check ups I get given leaflets. So all the course done was to repeat everything I know.
And now they want me to go on another course via zoom about what to eat. I turned that one down. I know what is good and bad. It’s all down to common sense. Which I have except when putting on my shoes.

Nothing else to report, catch up soon.
