As for cars, the BMW "Senior Six" as fitted to the E32 7 Series. That car was my first RWD car and was amazing!

Rather juicy though; probably used more fuel than the O.680!
I just Googled what a Leyland Leopard was?
A bus with a 11.1 litre engine, that's mighty impressive.

I do like the older 7 series, don't see very many around now.

To me that's a modern car although I did buy a brand new Mini in 1989 but not quite in the same league as BMW 335d.

I have never owned a BMW have driven several, nearly bought one a, 728i, that was some time ago now though, doubt if there are many around.

Driving the BMW certainly opened my eyes as to how good modern diesels can be. I love my V8 as you do it puts the haires up on the back of my neck every time i fire it up. Been looking around for another recently either a Jag XF R or to start with a S Type R... wont be selling the 260 though..

Owned a straight six MGC for a couple of years which sealed my fate to the MG brand a great touring car, I now have owned my MGRV8 for 18 years, 3.9 of fuel injected v8 power. Different engines in similar cars with a different driving experience. I'll go for the straight six. No the v8.

V8 for sound and shear pleasure.

Straight 6 for economy and ease of maintenance.

BMW made a sweet straight 6. My 528i was a dream to drive but without the lovely character of my '75 V6.

Drove a Pontiac GTO 6.4L V8 in the States in the 60's, Went to Mexico for the day, 500 miles each way

However straight 6 any day, smoothest balanced engine that is made, (V6 is a space compromise). Used to balance a coin on its edge to show how steady they are.

V8 for low down torque, if they were quieter, just do not like the rumble

I had a MK1a 3 litre P5 & my P4 110 has the 2600 straight six with overdrive. Lovely smooth engines & the 110 is surprisingly perky once you're out of first gear, easily cruising at speeds that will earn you a ticket.

Tough choice but the V8's are also lovely & smooth with the addition of that legendary soundtrack too. Best to have one of each.

One day I'll record a sound clip when I'm at work in a ships engine room then you'll know what a proper engine sounds like lol

EDIT: On topic...if we are talking about looks then the engine bay of the 260s looks like a cluster bomb exploded, might sound great but I'd be embarrassed to lift the bonnet to show the V8 underneath lol.

DONE: HAD A CRAZY IDEA THAT I HAD TO GET RID OF MY MG ZTT DUE TO NOT HAVING A DRIVE AND HAVING TO PARK ON A BUSY STREET WITH A VIEW TO GETTING ANOTHER ONE AT A LATER DATE WHEN I HAVE A DRIVE.

ENDED UP REALISING IT REALLY ISN'T PRACTICAL NOT HAVING A CAR TO GET AROUND AND I NOW OWN A VW EOS 3.2 V6 INDIVIDUAL (1 OF 20 REMAINING IN THE UK WITH THAT ENGINE AND TRIM COMBO) EVEN THOUGH I STILL LIVE ON A BUSY ROAD WITHOUT A DRIVE

Now that does look very nice indeed, most of the photos of them don't look anything near that and appear quite dreary, just goes to show some pride and TLC really does make a huge difference.
