Default Which Camcorder should I buy?

Can anyone give me some advice on anew digital camcorder? Ive finally decided that my 10 year old sony Hi-8 camcorder needs updating despite the fact that it works rather well.

I have seen all sorts of descriptions such as HDD, mini disc, flash etc...so I could od with some expert advice before spending.

Also...I have an (as new) Minolta Dynax 3xi 35mm auto focus Camera...award winning in its day fully programable.... roughly 17 years old, with loads of special effect filters(tobacco, polarise, star, soft etc)...works perfectly and has a new battery and some spare films....can anyone value this for me or would anyone like to make me an offer? (going chirp)

On ebay it looks like you might get £10-20 for the camera. What are the filters and how many? Are they the square "Cokin" type filter or round threaded type? You may find the filters sell better on their own.

There was a nice camera on QVC the other day, A JVC GZMS90 looked good and seemed to be a good price.

In my humble opinion I am very impressed with my Sony HD HDD camcorder.

Wow that seems cheap...but I have no idea which type of memory storage to go for..mini disc...sd card....and what does HDD mean?

Hard Disk Drive.

Seems to be the way forward with memory extension through SD cards.

Playback through laptop sd card reader and wont be long me thinks untill the TV has a sd card reader as standard.

I bought a JVC Everio MG575 during the summer (paid ~£375 for it). It's HDD - Hard Disc Drive. I bought it on the basis that I did not need to worry about tapes / discs etc. and being a disc could quickly and easily back it up to my PC. It has a 10x optical zoom which I find sufficient for family videos etc. It also has the advantage that it is a 'hybrid' - that is I can take 'normal' photos with it too (stored on a SD card). Given the aforementioned optical zoom that is pretty good for stills too.

At the highest video quality I can record 14 hours of footage (way more than I'll ever use). At lower settings you can record upto 24 hours of footage.

It is not HD, at the time I felt these were too expensive - like most things I guess the price has since come down.

Get's my recommendation.
