Default In car security camera advice.

My daughter and son in law are suffering some vandalism to their cars, so far 2 slashed tyres on one and today loads of used tea bags dumped on the other.

They live in a terraced house without a drive so the cars are parked around the back and can not be seen from the house, so are thinking about putting a discreet security camera inside the car on the dash.

Does anybody have any experience of using these and can you recommend a kit as i assume you need camera, recorder and storage card.

How are they powered and will they continue to work for say an 8 hour period ?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Rob my dad was having similar trouble a few years back, we contacted the local police and they set up surveillance for us, it could well be worth them contacting their crime prevention officer.

Also from memory we were told all images must be in colour black and white is no good.

Hi Rob.. Watch out you don't just supply the Vandals with a camera as well! Sounds like they would try to steal it..

a couple of problems with this:

Limited field of view from the camera
Usually poor LUX rating (able to see in the dark- usually when vandals strike)

A camera with I.R. LED's would help with visibilty but as it would be trying to see through glass this would cause a flare and make viewing difficult.

Your best bet is to mount a camera where it ca nsee the car, rather than mounting indue the car. does the rear of the house not overlook the car? what about at the foot of the garden/yard?

having had my window boxes and hanging baskets stolen two years on the trot costing £250 a year i went to see the crime prevention office who suggested a security camera and lights . Did both from maplins cost me £ 150 the blighters nicked the plants again gottca i thought !!! took the film to police station to be told that unless it was timed and dated on the film they couldnt do anything as it wouldnt stand up in court . Cant belive the crime prevention officer did tell me that so what do i do??? hanging baskets are now about 9 foot high and window boxes rawbolted down if this doesnt work im gonna wire then in to the 3 phrase from the garage !!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't you have to ask the vandals permission to film them nowadays??

I have this.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-cam...8941024&sr=8-1

Works very well, works wirelessly and records to my desktop pc whenever there is movement.

You need good technical knowledge to set it up though.

That's right date and time was also part of the criteria alongside colour.

thanks for the replies guys, plenty of food for thought there, unfortunately the layout of the close means that my daughters house is at 90 degrees to the car park which is on the right but there are another 2 houses plus gardens to the right of her house and between her and the car park so its not possible to mount anything on her property which could view the car park, as for the legality of the film with date time and colour etc i think she has her suspicions that it is one of her neighbours so it would be good to be able to confirm that at least with or without prosecution, if it had been my 75 conny I'm afraid i would be on the case more than Jack Frost until i found the culprit
