Been a sunny day all day, bitterly cold wind though.

Good old fish and chips tonight.

Still no sign of snow here, although there is an amber weather warning for Sunday for the white, fluffy stuff.
We've been out and re-stocked the larder this afternoon - the basic temperature is cold enough - but the wind is fit to cut yer lugs off

Just watched the weather forecast, Sunday could be interesting in your neck of the woods.

Just thinking about snake bites: Is it the case that sucking out the venom is recommended ... as per the old cowboy movies?
Thanks for the heads up about the heating. The neighbour said he switched it on

In answer to your question, sucking out venom is not recommended as it would have little effect. Applying a tourniquet is also not advised as it can cause tissue death. Don’t give alcohol. It will speed up the heart rate and this would increase the spread of the venom. The general advice is to move the victim out of harms way in case the snake is still around. Keep the bitten limb below heart level, again this reduces general spread. Keep the victim very still and calm. Get him/her to hospital as soon as possible for anti-venom and emergency treatment. Out in Africa, we subscribe to the Flying Doctor service for such eventualities and RTA’s in the bush. The call-out for a helicopter Medi-Vac is free to subscribers, for everyone else it’s $1000 USD
Sbscription is equivalent to £50 per year.

Snake bites vary in type. Some are dry with no poison. The poison is often an unknown cocktail of dangerous stuff, ranging from destruction of tissue, to causing serious bleeding, to paralysing the nervous system and stopping the heart. The pain from a snake bite is often excruciating.....

The nearest I have had akin, was 4 years ago in South Africa. A bite from a poisonous button spider to the testicles whilst driving. For now, the less said about that, the better
