As an addition to above post, we have tried everything, all the usual procedures , including what is available online. looks like its totally hoofed. not worth repairing , as it's quite old now, but we could do with retrieving some data from it. Such as the bank programme photos, and documents relating to my business.

Try starting in SAFE MODE and then restarting after a sound ahutdown.
If no good then start in SAFE MODE and revert to last saved restore point.

Plug the hard drive into another suitable computer and copy your important data.

Sounds like a hardware malfunction. Probably best to check that first, otherwise all your attempts will fail anyway.

After trying all the usual recovery procedures I normally try booting from a Linux cd/dvd/pen drive to try accessing the hard drive. I guess you do not not have one and creating one without a pc is a non starter.

So

If you get another pc you could put your old hard drive in it and get your data back. Or you could use a dock, this sort of thing, that would save you putting the hard drive inside the new machine. Just make sure you get one to suit your hard drive.

Either way it is a real pain, I feel for you.

Oh, as a last resort I believe pc world will retrieve lost data, not sure on this or the cost.

Lets hope you can get the thing booted up somehow.

Good luck.

Excellent advice, I always have a linux recovery usb stick (even an old 2Gb is sufficent) handy at home in case something goes wrong.

My PC's are all at least duel boot, which comes in handy if windows goes daft. Some even have 3 or more Operating systems on

Is there not someone close by that you could beg/steal/borrow one from? It won't repair Windows but at least you can boot the computer and get everything you need from the drive.

https://www.raymond.cc/blog/how-to-r...ista-dvd-disc/ may come in handy too if there is someone close who can help.

Best errors where these
