very nice- I was honoured to see the last flying lightnings that we used as chase aircraft. was expecting a bit of a flypast, but he almost scraped the back end on the runway as he took up !!

we also had the saudi lightninngs on site for a while until they went for scrap- it was an impressive sight but a sad end to these wonderful machines.

the same test pilot was later grounded for doing a 50 ft flypast of the tower in a perticular development aircraft that had a 350ft lower altitude limit in force - oops

Very nice, it makes one appreciate that these aircraft were designed by people, not computers. Similar to cars I suppose.

For me it's pretty much anything until the new Typhoon. The fifties/sixties did throw out some absolute beauties right enough. Buccaneer anyone?

Oh, and does anyone share the same fascination as me with the Avro Shackleton?

I feel priviledged to have seen some of the classics whilst still in service for my relatively young age (). From all of the above to seeing a Meteor flying over our village in the late seventies (but possibly not "on duty"?) through Hunters, Phantoms, Hercules etc to the Airshow "commuters" such as BOB Memorial Flight and a Junkers Ju52 (OK, not RAF but still an amazing sight to see).
