Not wearing a seatbelt with airbags fitted could result in a broken neck during a frontal impact.

It does not surprise me the driving standards in this country seem to have gone to pot, like not using indicators etc

Yep I'd say only 50% of drivers round here know where the indicator stalk is

Personally I've found it's the older drivers that think they can ignore the rules more than the younger ones.

Especially when it comes to using mobile phones, indicators etc..

Must confess to being a real " it's my life and if I want to wear a seat belt I will" person at the start of the regulation implementation.

Luckily I was not involved in anything too serious before I saw sense. If not for yourself, you should wear it for your loved ones.

Even thinking now of retrofitting the seatbelt warning setup. ( that is quite a cheap upgreade IIRC)

Luckily I was always brought up to wear a belt. However I once ignored my parents and in the days prior to child locks I decided it was a good idea to open the door whilst my mother was driving.

We went around a round-a-bout just as I opened the door and I flew out. It was lucky I wasn't hurt badly, just a few cuts and scrapes.

Man years later I was a passenger with my sister driving (She had just passed her test) and she drove into a car. It was quite a hard shunt and he car was totalled. We were both safe as we had our belts on.

I've never not done it since that first time.

C'mon guys, get real..... how do you expect them to fasten their seat-belt whilst on the phone??? That would be dangerous!!!

They aren't taught to use indicators properly any more, when I learn't if you had to cross the white centre line, to overtake a parked bus for example, then you had to indicate to inform on coming traffic and traffic behind that you were moving out.

Nowadays they fail if they do this the reason being is it could be misleading to other road users.

My son has just informed me that if you are pulled over to the side of the road and want to move off you mustn't indicate if a vehicle is approaching from the rear.

How ludicrous is that.

It has now become a guessing game trying to mind read younger drivers but if they are not taught correctly is it their fault!!!
