I was a regular viewer of QT. No longer, it has been plumbing the depths for a few years now, if Andrew Neil, Paxman or similar hosted it, it would attract me back. As it is, it's heavily politically loaded dice.

I think that it has not been the same since it was last presented by the late Sir Robin Day. His incisive and non-deferential manner combined well with his extensive experience as a journalist and as an interviewer of some of the top politicians of his time. It would be nice if a female replacement of his calibre could be found for the show but for me it would maybe take someone like Betty Boothroyd who was a former Speaker of the House of Commons.

Why not, just think of all the boxes she ticks for the BBC, including that she’d be N B G at the job.....

No chance. They might ask her to count the audience. She'd be lost at the first gangway.

Some good books on the BBC by David Sedgwick. Apparently George Orwell based his famous book on his time at the BBC. I lost interest in QT when a young Saudi Arabian woman made a highly relevant and stunning counter point to the promoted narrative on the evening about mosques in the UK. She was politely thanked and then 'next question please' and the juggernaut rolled on in the direction they wanted. No discussion allowed running counter to the narrative. Too embarrassing. Ignored completely what they didn't want to hear.

Since FB took over and verbally assaulted every panellist she personally took issue with, the big beasts give it a wide berth. So, at best, you get second tier views. When non-politicians appear, they invariably talk sense. Rather like John Cauldwell (the ex-phones-for-you chap).
The trouble is the only commentators who take the risk of a chair are forced to accept her as a boss rather than facilitator. She herself does not realise that facilitator is her role (which is much harder to master than a boss) and the BBC think of her as a star and pay her a fortune which reinforces her delusions of grandeur. I bet she will be allowed to maintain her opinions and views following any future reorganisation. Even worse, she knows nowt about antiques either.
