To be fair, I have been called a champagne socialist before, Although after attending The Scottish Socials party conference, When I bought a bottle of Veuve clicquot Champagne, I get a fair bit of ribbing, But after a few rounds we were all friends again!

I mentioned how people just don’t get the MG Rover V8 thing and he said he totally gets it and it’s a waste of time trying to convince doubters as they’ll just never get it. Yes there are other V8 cars out there but none can come close to what these cars can give an enthusiast and that’s where I’ll leave it. As an owner I get it and couldn’t care less if others don’t
I think the MG V8 is a lovely car, It was the reason I bought an MG in the first place, after seeing a red supercharge one up at Alford Speedfest!

The only issue for me is the cost, The look and sound lovely, and I am sure they go great too! If a MG ZTT V8 appears for sale at 5K, I will be on it like a car bonnet!

BMW840Ci would be my dream V8 classic. Or forget V8, if I can afford the servicing, 850Ci V12. Proper super car classic, turns heads, looks fast, even standing still. Just add a monogram paint job, yes, yes, YES!! (Sorry, nearly embarrassed myself!)

Not sure, Also saw what I thought was the same one at a Taste of Grampian? Now thinking about it, was it supercharged, I had a few drinks and probably sun stroke by then!

I agree, a V12 850ci would be rather desirable. But, each service would cost roughly the same as a ZT/75 V8!

Yes exactly, I know of one of those that was sold last year because the owner had spent £4700 on a service and some repair work, his wife found out and it had to go. Apparently one of the windscreen washer bottles cracks and are over £500 in parts alone and a good couple of hours to replace. Yes you have read that correctly, they have two bottles and one is used to top the other one up.

You only have to look on Ebay to see what used parts prices are like to realise they are expensive to run. 7 Series are the same, you can pick high spec cars up for peanuts compared with there new cost but they will often get scrapped when repairs are needed.

Cool

In January this year my V8 MG ZTT 400 was transported, by trailer, up to Retro Lifestyle up in Yorkshire. The EML had been on for sometime and the oil light kept flickering on and off.

Chris Flangan fitted a brand new Ford ECU unit, it came from the USA, that had to be re-programmed because of the supercharger.
The oil pump was stripped to see if anything was wrong and was found to be ok.
He also fitted a new front crankshaft seal. As the old one had been leaking since I bought the car.
He then carried out a full service. With 8 nice new plugs.
And finally put the car up on the ramps and fully checked everything underneath.

And that cost me less than £900.

The car runs even better and will regularly return 25mpg, if driven sensibly.
However if you really push then the mpg drops to about 8mpg and you get to change the rear tyres at 4000 miles. Been there and got the t shirt. Oh! But the noise.

Yes I would sell for the right price. But as soon you tell people the sum you have in mind they shy away.

But to each there own.
