Default Windscreen re-fit

Hello all, just purchased my first 75, love it! However there is an issue with the seal around the windscreen but the windscreen itself is ok. Can anyone recommend a place to get this refitted (keeping costs down)??

Have you tried the main fitters Autoglass or Auto Windscreens for a quote. If you were to take the car to one of their depots with the scuttle removed in readiness (possible refit the wipers for journey) I wouldn't have thought the labour charge should be that high. I have just had a new windscreen fitted by the latter above and I think from start to finish was not much more than an hour if that.

They will be very lucky to get it out in one piece, but maybe they could advise you the best was to re-seal it.

Thanks for the advice, what a great forum! The alternative may be just a replacement windscreen in that case, any recommendations? Have tried Auto-windscreen already

In the "old days" we used to reseal the glass with black goo. With the outer trims removed you may be able to apply sealant in the right place if you know where it is leaking.

The Auto Windscreen guy got my old screen off in one piece ever so easily using 'cheese wire'. He did say that the screen wasn't the original so maybe that made things a bit easier.

I bought one of these kits and got the rear screen out intact

never got the chance to use it on the front screen as I'd already broken it

I've had a good few windscreens out without breaking them but I made my own tool. There's a bit of prep involved with reselling the windscreen, youve got to remove the old bonding first which isn't too difficult, then you need to purchase a bonding kit which isn't much money and some vacuum handles would be useful to position the screen when installing. The it's a simple matter or applying the bonding and dropping the screen on. I haven't had any problems with the screen I fitted.
