Another clear and helpful post there, Arctic, thanks! So the nut is slid in from the side, is it? That's maybe doable. I'll see how I get on with what I've done so far and if no joy, revisit the issue.

Hi John. More like the back / side as the 10mm will be the same size as the aperture in fits into this stops the nut from turning when tightened up, also do not over tighten it s a nip up and then another 1/4 turn I think I have a spare radiator in the shed I will double check it for you later today.

Yes! Fixed it! I've just been for a test drive, and to my great delight (and, I have to say, astonishment), everything is now hunky-dory! The first thing I noted was that I have my acceleration back - woohoo! At first there was a blast of black smoke out the back, which made me fear that the smoke issue was unrelated, but subsequently the smoking stopped even under foot-hard-down acceleration, so I assume it was just clearing out the pipes initially.
I don't understand how I made such a pig's ear of this process this time, considering I've done it successfully in the past. But happy result anyway. Thanks to all who helped on here. |

Yes the nut slides in from the side, put plenty of copaslip on the nut as you don’t want it to seize in position, as you can see there is only a little bit of plastic that holds it in place. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

OK, I'll give it a go if my bizarre bolt-held-in-place-with-cable-tie solution fails at some point.

Nice to hear it as held for you, but if it does come loose again and you decide to fit the 10mm x 6mm threaded nut these photos should help as promised. The nut & recess 1 Recess for the nut. 2 10mm nut introduced. 3 Nut pushed fully home. 4 I presume you have threaded the cable tie through the bend fixing point then through the bracket on the rad so it should hold ok, but the bolt would be better 5
