Does the sunroof move freely when manually winding it open and closed?
If your last motor burnt out and the new one is blowing fuses it sounds like it is being asked to do too much work and the drive mechanism is seizing up. |

thanks, the sunroof moves freely, it was only ice that prevented it from opening originally and thus frying the motor. Just worried why the fuse keeps blowing, shouldnt draw 20A surely? I have only tried operating the new motor without it being attached to the car.

Can i ask how you got the motor out of the housing? I accidentally touched the switch the other (frosty) morning and the sunroof dropped down slightly at the rear That evening I tried the allen key in the hole with everything in situ, the motor would only turn one way - which you guessed it - opened my sunroof a little more! I have removed the motor, separated the plastic casing, when touching 12v to it i get a very short burst of movement from the motor which then stops and will not move again (if I wait 30 mins it will give another short burst and then play dead again) Also I can only turn the motor one way manually (Clockwise, which I beleive would open my sunroof further. I'm kinds stuck with a taped up sunroof and cant see how to separate the motor from the housing so I can refit the housing and try manually closing it again. Any help appreciated |

ok, sorted it now, I was showing my Son the problem when connecting to a battery, that you only get a short burst from the motor and then it stops.
Touched the leads to the terminals and the motor fired up and kept going. Switched wires to opposite terminals and hey presto the motor ran the other way. Quickly mounted the motor back in the car, without the plastic housing, touched wires from the cig lighter to the motor terminals and closed the sunroof, had to mess about slightly to get the roof in the closed position left the plastic housing off (so cannot connect the multi plug) so the switch is now redundant and i cannot accidentally touch the sunroof switch when trying to turn the light on. probably not going to use the sunroof anyway, never did understand why you need a sunroof in a car with air conditioning. |
