reverse switch on a 54 plate bnw engined 75

hello
I wondered if someone can tell me where the switch is located for the reverse i bought the car and the reverse light have never worked so i bought a switch have been told its postion is on the passenger side on the top of the gearbox .Just to know where abouts it is as the area is tighly jammed in and if there is a fuse for the reverse and if so where is that located as well
