Default Noise and vibration when lifting off clutch

When slowly lifting off the clutch in first gear for example, there’s a horrendous loud noise and vibration. Could this be an engine mount? Clutch pelts seems fine and I can change gears without issues. Car in question is a Rover 75 mk2 1.8 turbo, manual.
Thanks.

Similar to my Ford B Max when dual Mass flywheel was on the way out, but also the engine mounts on another vehicle .

What would be the issue with the flywheel? And, how can I find out for certain the cause?

By removing the gearbox and clutch I'm afraid Rav

Exact symptoms I experienced with the ZT 18 months ago

Thanks for all the replies. Going to check the mounts shortly first and see what they’re like.

Is the vibration you refer to, a judder with the drive snatching, or just a vibration? Also can you describe the noise, Knock? screech ?

I would say it sounds like a loud continuous knock. Like a gunfire.

Check the simple things first, wheel nuts, rear suspension rubbers on front suspension etc.

That sounds like excessive axial play on the flywheel unfortunately.

The flywheel on the ZT was perfect in that respect, and also in radial play, well within the spec laid down by LUK, and it was smooth as silk in operation........that is until the two masses stopped moving independently of one another and the result was a dreadful clatter and vibration caused by a dynamic inbalance of the flywheel.

I wanted to believe it was anything other than that, especially as in the beginning it was intermittent, opting to change the grotty looking Hydromount, the crankshaft pulley, and the lower engine steady, before finally pulling the gearbox out.

It's not what you wanted to hear, but the alternative no one else has suggested, is the collapse of the thrust bearing.

Is the vibration felt through the clutch pedal only, or is it the whole car?
