Default Panasonic CF-52B CD/DVD multi drive issues

Hi all, I have recently purchased a Panasonic CF-52B with XP service pack 3 for use for T4 that I've been meaning to do for years. But I am having issues with the multi drive disk reader. It will read DVD-R disks with files no problems, it will read normal audio CD disks no issues and DVDs. but CD-Rs it will not run nor the original diagnostic disk for T4. Anything in that format shows as blank, also if I try and write files to a CD-R the computer will say that it has be completed but if I put it onto another laptop it will be a blank disk so the laptop hasn't written the disk at all!
Does anyone here have an idea why CD-R disks will not work on the laptop? T4 requires CD disks so will not work without it working.

Quite possibly the disk drive is knackered, probably very old by this point. What I'd personally do is buy an external USB drive like this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/ZenDrive-Ex...Q8W/ref=sr_1_9, Windows XP will read the disks from that as if it's the internal drive.

That's what i was thinking. I was going to try another as they're easy to change. If all fails i thought about external drive. Cheers
