Default Air con not cold

Hi guys,

On my V6 tourer, the air con isn’t cold at all. Does that simply mean it’s not working? Is it a case of just getting it recharged by a garage or is there a fault with it? Sucks in this weather.

I would start with a check over by a hevac engineer, there has to be an independent in your neck of the woods.


It may need a simple regas, or as in the case of my car, a new condenser radiator, a hose and a regas !!

Mobile air con specialist every time. I paid for a regas twice before I woke up to the fact that I had a leak.

The way to start your diagnosis Ravinder is to look to see if the compressor is engaging.

  1. Open bonnet and identify the compressor grooved pulley at the front of the engine, mounted very low down.
  2. Start the engine with 'ECON' selected. Observe the pulley rotating but that the centre disc remains stationary.
  3. Preferably ask an assistant to press the windscreen demist button whilst you watch the pulley.
  4. The centre disc should move towards the body of the compressor and start rotating. It should remain in this condition whilst in demist mode.
