Thanks Jeff, She's been in & out of Bolton hospital that many times she's on first name terms with the staff on most on the wards there
I think we may need some help when she gets back home with how to go about getting her in & out of bed/chair etc.

Good morning all.

It's a dry but overcast morning here. That's going to change

Quizzie is off for her weekly meet up with her Guide Dog friends in an hour or so. So lunacy and nutty behaviour will be the order of the day - and that's just the humans . Although we'll probably skip the swimming in the river bit .

Wishing all those with tests/loved ones in hospital etc. and everyone who's having a bit of a torrid time at the moment all the very best and hang in there. This is a truly great place to be if you need to rant or just have someone there.

Take care

If it helps Ian, the Mother-In-Law in her 80’s, had 2 hip replacements, one for arthritis (done in Nairobi) and one was done in Oxford after a fall. Both surgeries were successful and post-op care involved physio on day 1 and getting up out of bed.

The emphasis was pain control and being up and about with a walking frame, before being discharged. Over the following months, she progressed to walking in the forest with a walking stick.

Hopefully physio will be there to help your mum with her mobility in hospital and at home.

A stressful day for you.

Thank you Jeff, we do hope. We heard the numbers of Covid in Nairobi have shot up in the past 24 hours, more cases and deaths, so we are keeping an eye in case the country closes all the airports and locks us out. I don’t think it would happen as it’s detrimental to the economy.

We are going to South Africa to finalise a building project, a barn conversion on the family farm and I am taking Jessica to see a spinal surgeon for an opinion about her back. Because of arthritis the discs in her back have disintegrated.

I am also to have a vascular scan on my Aortic Aneurysm and a scan on the Aneurysm in the right leg, the GP here thinks both should not be left any longer. I refuse to have any negative thoughts and that’s how I cope. Having said that, I do sympathise with people who are struggling with mental health because of Covid and the restrictions. I think mental illness is worse than anything physical in terms of coping.

Some good news

This morning I rang the Ethiopian Airlines check in desk and they said I can bring a camera shoulder bag packed with the camera stuff and medication...relief

I have room in the bag for 2 bags of Salt n Vinegar, 3 bars of chocolate and a packet of light McVities Digestives, in case the food on the plane is inedible.

Jeff, have a great weekend What are you up to?

Morning all - quite full in here this morning - good to see. In Derek's day he'd be telling us he'd run out of Full English breakfasts and you'd have to make do with Marmite on toast --- aaaah, memories
It's another grey day here - and particularly cool - I think we were close to a frost overnight.
In no particular order:-
  • Ian - best wishes to your mum - hope the hip op. goes well
  • Andy - best wishes to Deb - hope she's on the road to recovery
  • Phil - hope all goes well with your flight tonight and your medical matters (and that includes Jessica too)
  • Everyone else - g'day
We're awaiting a courier collection of SWMBO's Covid-19 swab - nothing wrong with her (we hope) - the test is part of a study by Imperial College London on behalf of HMG which Angela signed up for.
Apart from that - a lazy day in prospect.

Thanks AndyNO1, Phil, Rod. Blimey! it's all happening quickly! Just rang up & she's had the operation (Half hip joint replacement) and is back in the ward, Ward nurse says she's in a little discomfort & asked if she can have a cup o tea

The physio is seeing her this afternoon They've issued her with a mobile phone to get in touch with family and visa versa as there's no visiting allowed.
The insurance assessor came just as my sister rang to say my younger brother is taking her to the hospital with a bag of her stuff to hand to a nurse.
That saved me a job I thought I'd be in with a tough time after phone calls to the insurance company were a little less helpful about what the household insurance covered.

We've got some estimates in writing but trying to get other trades in to get quotes is nigh on impossible due to restrictions here

Anyway the assessor chap couldn't have been more helpful & OK'd everything we are claiming for, Good job I took pictures as he said that's great proof.

Quizzie is back from her morning out.

5 dogs in total and absolutely wonderful to see them having such a good time. There isn't any social distancing in dog land .

She's now curled up - fast asleep

Hi Phil,

We are having a new polycarbonate roof put on the catio to give some weather protection to it. A trip to the cat rescue tomorrow afternoon and the Portuguese Grand Prix for Sundays entertainment.

Up to the boat Monday into Tuesday and hoping I might have a successful trip out on her to get fuel and a toilet pump out
