Very Sluggish Automatic Diesel
Afternoon,
Just been shopping. On my way there the car drove beautifully however on my way home the car appeared to be in "limp home" mode. More or less all down hill home so I got home eventually although very slowly. The last part of the journey home was on an uphill gradient and when I depressed the accelerator the car eventually appeared to accelerate but was still very sluggish. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help. Regards David |

It could be the MAF unplug it and see if it make any difference, any black smoke when trying to get power, check the EGR hose also the O-rings any recent work done on the car ?

Good evening,
Update on the car. I went out this afternoon after the Grand Prix to try the car and it is working perfectly or should I say normally! I haven't driven any other automatic diesels. Would a split or detached intercooler hose create an intermittent problem? Similarly could a problem with the MAF or the EGR hose cause an intermittent problem? As regards the O rings, Jules replaced these with "Unrated viton intercooler seals" in February 2018. Having looked through Jules's report on the car he said "It has EGR delete kit fitted too". As regards recent work. I have had the rear springs and the front to back brake pipes replaced in May this year. Before today I have not had any problems with car. Any thoughts on what could be wrong with the car? Thanks for your help. Regards David |

Intercooler hose would be a permanent issue, has it had a fuel filter recently? Could be as simple as the filter clogged or collapsed internally.

Or a brake hanging on, would explain why it was ok when you went back to it, ie the brake had cooled & wasn’t dragging as badly

A failing MAF will give an intermittent fault/reading alternately functioning properly and improperly at certain times, if it happens again then unplug the MAF to see if the car runs as it should pull in low gears as well as high and at speed. https://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/for...74&postcount=1

I would say that the fact you were going down hill at the time and it wasn’t running right but started to do so once you started going up hill that it is nothing more than fuel starvation. The tank design has a ridge in it and with the sender been one side and the pump the other you can sometimes be showing more fuel than the pump can pick up. This is even more so going down hill or round a corner. Now you’re home and tried it again when on a flat surface the fuel is feeding as it should and so no problems.
