Default Anyone used Sea Foam in a 2.5 V6?

Hi All,

I thought I would strike while the irons hot and post yet another question.

A few years ago, while on the motorway an oil cooler pipe broke at the union and all the oil drained in a millisecond so the engine seized before I had stopped. As I'd had the car from new, I bought an engine on eBay and had it fitted. The engine had done 65K miles so I assumed would be ok but it reality it hadn't been looked after / regularly serviced.

As a result, it sound like a diesel not a 2.5 V6 petrol. I think one or more of the cam lifers get stuck and make it sound very tappety.

Some days you start it and it purrs like it should and other days its a diesel.

I came across a product called Sea Foam by accident and watched a video of a guy using with a similar problem to me. It totally silenced his engine so an considering trying in my car. But, before I do, I though I'd see if anyone has an opinion as it it's use?

Any feedback welcome.

Regards,

Terry.

You need to find the cause of the issue and not mask it with a product as it may even make it worse. No experience of the product in question. I’m sure another member can answer that soon.

I'd say Snake Oil is probably better than Sea Foam. But if you want MG Rover's advice, it's in the Handbook (See Note).
