Default New key case - engine disabled

Hi all,

Yet another problem with my car at the moment
I've just changed the key case as the old one had disintegrated. I did it very carefully, transferring the old innards into the new case plus the blade. The key fob unlocks/ locks but when I go to start it comes up with the message engine disabled. So is there something I'm doing wrong, does the key need to be synced with car, by a pressing buttons on the key fob your help please.

Regards,

Marc

Hi Marc
It sounds to me mate like you’ve left the transponder Chip in the old case, when you open the case up you will find inside the case you will have a printed circuit board with a battery attached that is for the alarm system remote central locking et cetera, however on the back of the two-piece case you will find a small rectangular shaped transponder Chip that needs to be changed over if not you will get engine disabled sign up on the IPK

Thanks Mick,

I'll have another double check in the old key case, once I retrieve it from the bin and check for that chip
By the way, many thanks for the parts you sent

Kind regards,

Marc

Once you find it, a bit of double sided tape will hold it in place.

That was a bit lucky, if the bin had been emptied you would have been in a pickle, do you only have one key? if so time to get another one made up maybe, also you can just add the back with the transponder in to the new front you have, saves prying out the transponder.

PS never throw any part of the key away until you know the new one opens & starts the car

Yes, thanks Steve, good advice,
Fortunately I had a spare key, so was able to use the car, although the spare key case is also broken , so will replace that one with a new one.. This time making sure everything is transferred over... Lesson learnt
