Someone's been doing their homework, yes it's a super yacht.
The one in question has been berthed at Portomaso for several years now. Could have done with a boat when going out for a meal on Friday night as there was a cyclone circling the island. Anyway today we're back off home to sunny Scotland, well it will be at 35000 feet. |

Back home after another visit, but not for long as the missus has booked again for next year.
My friend Jeffrey has replaced his yacht with a newer one so he took us out for a day and trusted me with a shot at the helm. I think he was getting a bit worried when this big boy appeared on the horizon. Only joking It was one of the cruise ship visiting Valetta for the day, But it is very tiring enjoying yourself so we dropped anchor for a lovely spread courtesy of Jeffrey's missus Claire. But all good things come to an end so it was back to port, or was that starboard well anyway we tied a knot to hold it tight against that jetty thingy. Whilst we were cruising through the harbour area Jeffrey pointed out this one. There are around 100 cars Suzuki Lianas I think, which were bound for Libya but have been held on the dockside for over 8 months now. Finally back on dry land but still looking at boats, this is the connection, well almost to the Rover 75 with this super yacht Riva 75 Venere. It's beauty and has been berthed here for a few years now. Malta plays host for numerous super yachts but two came out in my mind as being that bit special. Google "2 Ladies " and "Ace" and you will see what I mean. Last edited by Jim Jamieson; 13th November 2014 at 21:38.. Reason: add photo & text |

You can't get too much of a good thing as the saying goes, so here we are back in our second home.
Just back from Manoe Island boat yard today where my friend has his boat out of the water to re coat his hull. We think the maintenance is sometimes high on a car, well I certainly would not like to have to go through all this every two years. Jeffrey has asked me to help him when it goes back into the water on Wednesday then it will only be a short over to the berth in Birgu before returning home. |

Nowadays your more likely to see Aston Martin convertibles, although probably not in St Juliens. I spotted three in two days, two with Maltese plates, AM V8 plus another one and a UK plated car.
Also plenty of Porsche Cayenne's and other high end stuff. I think some of the 75's I spotted over the years have been laid up possibly with broken springs LOL. I'm back again next month so hopefully I'll get a trip in Jeffrey's' yacht. |

Gosh you get to Malta much more than I do!! I've noticed a big improvement in the roads - still bad in places - but good places too.
It would be very cool to a 75/ZT meet in Malta!! (Might see next time I berth the club yacht there! )

Well we're back again in Malta but this time we took a mid break and flew over to Italy for a few days. Flights are much cheaper from here than the UK obviously there is the difference in distance but as we were going to be in Malta anyway we took the benefit.
As for 75s I have said before and on this trip there's still a noticeable lack of them on the roads now. Having said that I have spotted only two so far on this trip, a series 2 in silver near San Gwan and today whilst running a friend home I spotted a UK plated one in green reg no X177 PES near Fleur de Lys. It had a space saver fitted on the front. My reckoning is that as the marque is now getting on in years, they're slowly being replaced, also possibly suffering from broken springs they are being scrapped, I hope not. There are other Rovers still around, I spotted a 600 and an 800 both the same colour of green and at the same junction, just like the buses none come along then two appear. BTW the Suzuki Lliannas on the dockside have all now gone but those Bendi Buses are still sitting in storage unwanted apparently. I will be back home soon and among my summer projects is the replacement of the cam belt on the V6 so hopefully I will get back into it for a run soon. |
