[QUOTE=hogweed;2992665]From what I can remember, my Beemers had their batteries in the boot... was his the same? I'd kind of understand it better if it WAS my boot, but there's just no obvious route for water to get to where I'm finding it

Yup battery in the boot buried under covers and trim. we think it just seeps in via the moving tin top roof seals .

I sussed out the wiring and found it had a BCU similar to our ZT/75's and a quick squirt of 12 v from a small battery on the correct pin popped the boot.
The water did screw up the MCU as well , but was able to get that sorted cheap.

Just had a good poke around in daylight - floor is saturated, but only under the front passenger seat. If I didn't know better, I'd think somebody had spilled a bottle of water no, no kids in the car or anything...

Had a good look underneath the car, and couldn't see anything amiss at all - no bad underseal, no missing bungs or anything.

I did find some kind of plug lying in the wet area - any idea what it might be??

Default And another thing...

Somebody on the Vauxhall forum said it might be a pipe leaking from the evaporator... but I have no idea where that is. Obviously could be different from a Rover, but surely it would be under the bonnet somewhere, and not back inside the centre console??

OK just in case anybody's sufficiently bored to still be reading this, I've made a lot of "progress", but no cure yet. I took the floor out of the boot, and found a big wet patch just behind the rear seat back on that side. It's running through from there, down onto the floor, and finding the lowest point, under the passenger seat

Dried everything thoroughly, put a lot of J-cloths there, and it rained quite hard that night - cloths saturated in the morning. So it appears to be coming in from the top, somewhere around the hinge of the tailgate (is that what you call a hatchback's boot lid?).

I've put the hose all over the place with the (conveniently small) girlfriend in the boot, but we can't see where it's coming in.

So... we think it's all happening behind this trim panel, so I need to get it off to watch when the hose is applied. Only problem is, I have a serious tendency to break things... I know it's not a Rover, so you may not have direct experience of it, but is there a typical way panels like this are attached? If I just start pulling at it, I know what will happen

Hi Roger

OK, so my son has an Insignia and I have been watching this thread, but as your puddle was under the front passengers seatI kept quiet.
However now you shown this pic, I will try to help.

My son had a wet rear passengers seatbelt, only found out when 4 of us got in the car.
Solution is here:

Did the work over a weekend, you will need a few new plastic clips, I'll look for the part nos and post back. Took our time, cleaned everything to an inch of it's life and Plumbers Gold sealant.

6 months o and all is still dry

My little plastic cap is extremely well sealed in place (so much so it would be pretty difficult to remove at all), as evidenced by serious application of the hose to it with no water coming in some people say the sealing was improved on the facelift model - what year is yours?

I was really disappointed to find that it wasn't the problem on my car - especially after breaking the poppers etc taking that trim off, being unable to get the boot seal to go back on properly afterwards etc etc etc.

So cheers for the tip, but I fear I have a different problem

To be honest Roger, If I were you and as you have already removed the trim in the boot I'd take the plugs aout & clean/re-seal. You've already done the worst part getting the trim off. What's to lose?

Yeah that's what I suspected... consensus in the Vauxhall community seems to be that the sealing of this area was much improved in 2013 or so with the facelift.

As I say, I was seriously disappointed to find it wasn't the problem on mine. And the ****ing poppers that hold that trim on are £7 EACH!

Oh, I've thought about it... might yet happen, but they're under layers of something like the old fibreglass matting we used to use on bodywork, so on my model it would be major surgery...
