Default Dashcam power question

Can I ask how you all are powering yours, e,g battery through usb to charger or hard wired, and if hard wired links to kit please ?

Thanks

Rob

Mine is hard wired. I took apart the cigar adaptor & put the contents in a small black box. A couple of mini choc blocks for the supply & return (earth). Supply was fed via a piggyback fuse into the fuse box behind the glove box. fed the wire for the dash cam via the nearside 'A' pillar & across the screen behind the roof lining to the mirror. Cam is behind the mirror.

Hope that makes sense

Mine is also hard wired.
I fitted a power socket under the dash beside the fusebox and just plugged it in there fed the cable up the a pillar and across the roof all out of sight.
I have a few pics if you wanted to see.
I'm planning on adding a camera in the rear and I'll fit an OEM power socket in the rear shelf or maybe the boot I'll wait and see how it goes.

Thanks considering both of those options, at the moment because I am only making short journeys I just charge it from the lighter socket but will need something better in the long run

I have mine mounted by the rear view mirror with the power cable running inside the headlining across to the drivers side A pillar.

From there it runs down and along the door frame rubber until it gets to the drivers footwell upper kick panel where it then goes behind and runs along the drivers side of the centre console until it pops out in the centre armrest cubby box.

I have an auxiliary power socket already for it inside. Nice and neat and the power cable is more than long enough for the entire run.

Nope the cable keeps it a nice snug fit. It's the same in all three of my cars, as I have that set up in all of them

Hardwired my Dashcam the same way as sin8458, goes on and off with ignition.

My method of keeping the ipod secure.

The rain sensing wipers also have a switched live and you can pick up from there which is handy if you are fixing your camera to the top of the screen, just take off the centre light roof console to find the wires, there is enough room up there to hide the adapted cigar lighter plug which provides the power and refit the centre light console
