This was my first thought, if one side had released then there would have been a bit more room to work with. Do the 'pins' protrude below the slam panel? maybe cut the bottom off as the grill is out?? SteveN

No the pins are flush with the slam panel, you can undo them but you need an 's' shaped 8mm spanner, unfortunately you have to break the grille to do it by this method and it takes ages to undo the nuts as they don't even turn a quarter of a turn!

Didn't see your earlier post, afraid I'm to far away to help, but I do know of one workshop in your area I'd trust with anything:
Stubbs Motor Engineers Address: 30 Morton Rd, Pilsley, Chesterfield S45 8EF Phone:01773 872328 Give them a call or PM some of the club experts (does anyone know if there's anyone in North Notts?). It might be a bit far afield for John H but if you don't ask you won't know. Phil-T4 travels all over as well (Both from around my way).

My faith has been restored in human nature! I'm afraid my problem is way past the 'secret' method, but thanks to those who have suggested it. Thanks too for all the interest being shown. I've just tried to ring Andy but he's obviously too busy to answer. I'll keep trying.
Thanks again folks, Chad.

Wouldn't it be worth going to a Rover garage ? Maybe not Handy but better than scrapping a car for?
