Default Toaf and Heater OBD

Hi all,
Can anyone give me an idiots guide please? I would like (if possible) to use TOAF to check the ATC as the on board system does not work for some reason.
I am having heater issues where I can only get heat on High setting, anything below is a waste of space. Matrix pipes are almost scalding hot (both), heat and lack of heat is even and equal both side, more heat seems to go to my feet than the screen - when I have heat.
Inline thermostat done, matrix flushed, system bled for air as advised by SD1 on this forum.
