According to the Rave manual , the "fixed seat " types have cloth straps at each side , between the bottom of the backrest and the rear of the cushion , which you pull to release the backrest ; it then folds down or comes out .
This is the case on my own '51 reg car
The straps may well have been tucked back out of sight .
