It really makes me sad when I see a launch car going as spares, I got my first 75 on the party night, picked her up from the garage in Kilmarnock. I don't know what her registration was as she came with my private plate on her. She was the best we went up and down to Cornwall every year and over to Le-Mans every year twice every second year she was an oil burner, and came with every toy you can think of. she pulled our caravan over 8,000 miles and was in fantastic condition. when she died she was just about run in she had covered 380,000+ miles and turned herself upside on black ice to save us from harm. She passed in 2004 and that was me hooked again my first 75. was almost 60 years ago she had three head lights not four like today's cars loved her but sadly tin worm got her. now I am slowly rebuilding the spice tourer to se me into the grave in the last month I have spent a lot of time on her. All brake parts from the ABS pump back to the nipple also the back plates and cables, did the bearings whilst I was in there. at the back I ended up doing the subframe, top and bottom arms and the three bushes in each trailing arm, whilst I had the tank down to do the brake pipes and trace some bits and bobs. O decided to do the tank strap as it was very second hand looking every where is now covered in waxoyl. The front was not to bad, Just did the bottom wishbones, drop links and rear wishbone mounts to do after the brakes. I am told that she had some welding done on her sills in the past. Cant find any obvious evidence of this but will happily leave this till a later date to investigate as that will involve cutting each side from the chrome finisher down to where it joins the car floor, I think that will be going to a garage to be done, but we will see. Early March saw me building a new exhaust from two feet behind the CAT back to the new twin stub pipes then welding a new flexi section in to the pipe joining the CAT on to the manifold bend pipe. I will do them when they are needing done. The exhaust was a worth while job as it got the Mpg up by 5MPG so she now goes a lot further on a tank of diesel than she did before. Slowly I will restore her to the way she should be. The next job is get the ABS light out and the pad wear light out Sensor faults but hard to trace then the heater Fan needs replacing as it is now only coming on when it feels like it and is becoming very noisy as it spins up to speed.
Sorry Trikey this was not meant to go in your article but the death of a launch car got me going so sad to see good cars being striped down for parts a they are much more valuable in pieces that in the whole. If you have a saloon on your dismantle ramp the wife's car could do with two of the little blanking caps that fit into the trim panels that run down either side of the roof. Where you would have mounted roof bars. I am on the look out for two of these little caps both on the drivers side don't under stand how hers have gone missing.
Everybody please keep safe.
