Default Dash cam feed

I've just bought a dash cam and would like to wire into a 12v permanent live feed, so the camera can switch on if it senses motion at the front of the car when parked up.

Is there anything available in the interior light fitting I could use, or will I need to run a separate feed from somewhere else?

Thanks in advance

Ian

Note: I haven't tried this.

With the above disclaimer said, I would rely on the dashcam internal battery when parked if using motion sensing, The risk of flattening your battery rises the longer you leave it, and one more thing wired up with the ignition off is one more failure point to worry about.

I have tried this:

I don't have the motion sensing on mine switched on - might give it a try. Mine is wired to a switched live behind the glovebox which is nice as it comes on and shuts down without me interfering with it at all . (and no forgetting to plug it in or switch it on/off either).

Just where and how did you pick up the switched feed?

I picked up the feed from the fuse box and used a fuse tap, using fuse No. 12 in the passenger fusebox, for the torch socket etc (on the Mk 1, not sure about the later cars).

Rather than using a cigarette lighter adapter, I wired in a 12v to 5v Power adapter and ran the wire up the A pillar.

It saves having an adapter plugged into the cigarette lighter and looks neater IMHO.

Switched feed to the headunit I think. I've already got a fair bit going on down there already what with the Nokia bluetooth unit and the power supply for the RPi, that taking a small current from the switched live I'm using for everything is no big problem.

I picked up the feed to the radio and just spliced in and fitted a socket under the glovebox just beside my cruise ecu.

Camera comes on with ignition and off after a few seconds of switching off.
