Default winter tyres

Looking for 195/65 91H winter tyres.
Anyone had problems getting this spec in a winter tyre or can recommend a brand?

For Scotland in February will an all season tyre do or is an out and out winter tyre the one to go for?

The Dunlop Winter Response 2 has a winter tyre label and a 3 Peak winter Snowflake symbol, I'm confused, what tyre is it? It is only a T rating so no good

Hi.

Don't know much about snow tyres but AFAIK a "T" rating is good up to 118mph.

Are you planning to do some snow racing competitions .

Good luck with the search.

Don’t know about Scotland but well experienced when it comes to winter driving. If they are going to be used for just a few weeks then M & S will probably do, suppose it depends where and on how much experience of winter driving you have.

I have alpine, non-studded winter tyres but our season is much longer and conditions often more extreme.

If you have the chance book a session at a skid pan, not really realistic, but might provide valuable experience of how your car handles when slippery. And it's fun

Regards

Michelin Cross Climate are very good, or something from the Vredestein range are also good and a bit cheaper. It's just the tyre size might be a problem.

Mud & snow, if inexperienced and you're in a part of Scotland that regularly gets snow then go for the Alpine ones. And don't forget the skid pan - all learners here have to complete a course on a skid pan as part of the driving test.

Mud and Snow. As per 1-5-2021 there is a new EU tire label. Have a search for that. For winter tires it is even more important to have a recent year of production. Ensuring the chosen tire has the new EU label, you will buy one from this year. Ask for the Dot code. I am I search myself too, and I think I will go for the Michelin Crossclimate+ all season with snowflake symbol.

Good luck with the search.

All sounds very complicated. Not like the start of the 70's as newly passed full license holder we couldn't afford winter or snow tyres, just used what was fitted to the car but drive a bit more gingerly (this was in the dales, so we saw snow more often than not).

We're talking about Scotland not Finland It all depends where you are heading for, very rarely get snow of any consequence here. In the south of Scotland its probably no different to where you are, north of the central belt (Edinburgh-Glasgow) is where it can get interesting.
