Checking for play, just backup the front end and rock and pry suspect components and check for play and noise or movement that shouldn't be there.

If you want to arrange a time to meet, I'll bring a trolley jack and can give things a check over for you no problem. If Briodyj is available we'll both give things a check over

Rob
Thanks Robert
When would suite you? I'm retired so can zip down the M62 :most days? I have a small jack that I carry around in the car. Most grateful for your assistance with this. I've been told whatever it is it's not serious, but I just don't like noises and my wife dislikes them even more!

Hi Rob
Sorry I didn't see your message about this morning. Until 1200 today (Friday).
Monday after 1100 at Junction 42 retail park would work for me. I'll pm you my mobile number so that we can rendezvous in the car park. I'm thinking that it may be difficult to pin point where the groans /knocks are coming from. It seems to settle a b it after a run.
Thanks for your help.

If you are noticing the noise is worst over rough ground/speed bumps I'd say it's very likely one of the lower arms, probably only one side gone but could be both.

If you jack the car up and rock the wheels you should be able to tell if it is the lower arm.

Not a major job and an entire arm along with bush can be bought from DMGRS
for £99.99
