Default Secure Boot isn't compatible with your PC

I have Windows 7 atm.
One of the kids did a test to see if my pc could have Windows 8 on it.
(Secure Boot isn't compatible with your PC)
Was one of the things that came up.
What does that mean and does it mean the pc is too old?

You could try ignoring the message and seeing whether Win8 loads anyway, or have a look at the changing the secure boot setting in the BIOS.Google it to get the steps.

I had an old laptop with Windows 7 on. My solution was to upgrade to Linux Mint before the Win7 sunset date. It works much better now.

Hi Windows 8 is obsolete and superseded by Windows 10, go to Microsoft Windows 10 site and check to see if your computer is capable of running W10, there is an app therein that will do that for you. If it can then check on the internet for method to install it without the need for a microsoft key.
If it is incapable of running W10, then you could use open source software such as Linux-based Ubuntu, of Xubuntu, all great software.

All it means is that your computer has a BIOS rather than the newer UEFI, so you won't be able to use secure boot.
That's no issue at all as it's still optional even in Windows 10, which you should be using (the upgrade from Win7 is free!!).

Now that is how to answer the question.
Cheers Micheal

The link if you need it for Windows 10 is https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/soft...load/windows10

As I say, completely free (and encouraged by Microsoft - this isn't any sort of questionable work around) and very much encouraged.

The Win7 to Win10 upgrade procedure is excellent and will retain all the applications you installed under Win7. It will take several hours to complete. Just follow the onscreen instructions.

With some minor tweeks, you'll find it more or less identical to your old familiar Win7. There are a few things about Win10 I don't like as much as the old version, but I'll get used to it.
