Just watched it.
Some very good points are made about things I certainly would not have looked twice at.
It certainly makes you think, and will make me look at things in a different light.

obviously not only be careful what you buy, just as important is where you buy, lots of fake parts an booze about at this time, buy Smirnoff from corner shop and low price may well equal fake, pay a bit more at leading supermarket, and unlikely to be other than as described.

I have a oil filter, used, in the garage. It is a eurocarpart one. When i get a chance, i will "unravel" it and check it against a oem one and report back.I agree with your comments about Unipart, also Mahle, Fram, Crossland are good makes.

If you're buying from a Motor Factor, Halfords, ECP, GSF etc, it's almost impossible to buy poor quality filters in the UK. The US is a different story. Steer clear of the ebay cheapies and you'll be fine.

Wix, Mahle, Mann, Bosch, Guttman, Fram, Unipart, Champion, UFI, Crosland, ADL Blueprint, Hengst, Sofima....................... are all excellent.

As for flat blade wipers........... FOR SHAME!!!!! They don't suit the lovely lines of the 75 at all. Passable on a ZT because it's a confused design to start with, but that's it

I know someone who bought a box of cheap diesel filters for his Transit as he was fed up with paying nearly £30 for quality filters. Those that dont know there is an indicator on a transit filter telling you how soon it will need to be replaced. Not very accurate but an indication.

Anyway about a year into these cheap filters and about 20k miles he was having problems with the way it was running so it went into a specialist after the local garage had no idea. There conclusion was it needed a set of injectors and a fuel pump rebuild and that was is unheard of with a Transit with under 100k miles on it. Total cost including the labour £1800, the cause of the failures was contaminated fuel due to poor quality filters. Genuine Transit filters are 2 Micron and most non genuine are 4 micron.

the filter was a mann and on close inspection looked exactly like the filter fitted by "cleckheaton rover" during the last rover dealer service, so am happy with that.

do i skimp' well yes i do, at the moment i am just about to try out some cheap 22 inch aero wipers, make just says "high performance aero dynamic' direct fit wiper blades" cost around £5 inc p+p off ebay.

the bmw equivalent in size and style {but not likely quality} around £30.
this i am happy to do' i will carry around with me the old blades just incase of failiure or poor performance.

but skimp on vital parts such as oils, filters, fluids, brakes and tyres ect and your asking for trouble.
I absolutely agree, the consumer has NO idea what they are getting at all, there is so much garbage now coming from all over the place, very few things are genuine, and the trend is continuing towards poor quality, starting with inferior raw materials, little expertise to poor manufacturing to zero QC and you end up in a market awashed with junk.
So much for advanced technology, Is a 40K BMW made in Mexico, the same quality as that made in Germany, I don't know, and I certainly don't think so!.
