Redex Engine Oil
I've noticed Redex has an engine oil out.
My car being 190 odd k mileage I've been using 10W40 Castrol GTX. Could it be the case of different brands but the same sort of oil or should some brands need to be avoided? So this ere Redex is it a goody or a baddy?

In my experience the diesels will run fine if you change the oil every 15k miles with decent quality semi synthetic oil. I have used Triple QX for the last few years - bought when ECP/Carparts4less have one of their better sales on.

One of the reasons for asking is that Tesco is selling Redex 10W40 at £6.50 for 2ltrs. They don't have my Castrol GTX any more.
Can't see any reviews on the Redex 10W40 oil/

Redex oil has been sold for a few years by the likes of Tesco and Wilko (other stores available).
It’s all down to quality and how well it performs. Personally, this is the type of oil that I would use to do an engine oil flush with on a petrol engine car as the cleaning agents will do a far better job of cleaning out sludge deposits in a petrol can than any of the so-called engine flush snake oil ad ins. As for using in the M47R engine, it is a case of you get what you pay for and I would personally if using this oil in mine would be changing it out after 3 to 4,000 miles and so ending up costing far more than a quality oil. The last change I did on mine was with Mobil 1 which I got 8ltrs of from Euro Car Parts under their offers for less than £35 including the filter and delivery.

I do my service when the car indicator suggests, counting down fro 15k.
As far as quality is concerned, who is to say what is best. I'm not a lead footer driver and I do on average 350 miles a week. Being a BMW engine it is pretty bomb proof providing it's looked after which it is. The Redex brand has been going for years but I haven't seen there engine oil before. That is why I'm asking for members comments. As far as pennies are concerned, the way I look at it is why pay £60 odd for a engines worth of oil when I could get the same oil for less. Same oil, same standard but different make. Look at it this way. Cow juice is the same be it from Tesco, Asda or any other place, it's just has a different label or bottle.

If your car is running ok on that, what are you looking for? I have used nothing but Magnatec in the diesel and the KV6. My son used the same in the KV6 before I had it off him. The diesel I bought had around 30.000 miles on it. It now has around 105,000 miles on it. We go abroad, or did until this virus came on the scene, Germany regularly, sometimes twice a year and France.Full boot and mostly four average size people, cruise where possible around 80 mph. Never uses oil between changes every year. So on that basis, I recommend Magnatec oil. On a different tack, when I had my 220sd diesel, we usedDuckhams oil, then changed to Millers oil for diesels, and the difference was palpable. It ran better and was more peppy and smoother. That car also never used any oil. So, you pays your money and take your pick.
