I have ordered some of that Comma Flush Out which will hopefully be with me in time for the weekend.
The instructions say to only put in half of the engines normal oil capacity. That sounds quite scary! Like running it on not enough oil, no? |

I cured the tap on my 1.8 K series by using a 5/40 oil instead of the 10/40. It gets around quicker on start up and exceeds the spec for the engine so is OK to use.

There's no need for concern. Comma knows what it's doing. I've used this product many times and it works very well. The engine is only run at a fast idle with the car remaining stationary throughout. Simon

When you say fast idle, do you mean 1500rpm or somewhere thereabouts?

I have Flush Out in the garage ready for use and I've just checked the instructions. Comma no longer specifies half the sump capacity on the carton so you could use more if you want to. Simon

As long as the oil pressure light stays off you'll have no problems.--

I mentioned this to one of my sons who has a garage and he said putting aside the noise being caused by a fault with the camshaft and followers, an occasional cause of oil flow / pressure problems on the K series can be the pump pressure valve not seating, the oil pick up pipe filter being blocked, or the oil pick up pipe o ring being split.

It states: 1.When engine is warm, drain used oil. 2.Replace sump plug and refill with FLUSH OUT. 3.Start engine and fast idle for 10 minutes. 4.Drain and refill with fresh motor oil. Their website also states: Minimise contact with engine oil. There is no mention, however, of how to get rid of the residual FLUSH OUT, contaminating the fresh oil. https://www.commaoil.com/passenger-v...ducts/view/539 TDS attached.

Thanks Simon, so it is agreed about the engine fill.
However, rather than to avoid unnecessary worry by customers, I suspect it is more about product liability. On that subject, it is interesting that they state "Minimise contact with engine oil". I think that it is to pass the onuses on to the end user with the problem with getting rid of the residual product, that is now in contact with the fresh oil. The only method, I can think of, is carry out sacrificial oil changes to try to get rid of the stuff!
