You don't say if you have started the engine.-

If not then make sure the water hasn't got into a cylinder. If a cylinder has water in it then the first thing to happen is the con rod will be driven up through a piston. ----

50/50 OAT as requested by it's previous owner

Last antifreeze change carried out in March 2017, after the last thermostat replacement.

The coolant was introduced using a genuine MGR vacuum tool according to the book, and the preceding defective "genuine" thermostat assemblies were changed under warranty by DMGRS, scant consolation when the inlet needs to comes off again

So four years, it's due a change.......but plain water wasn't used after the engine was replaced

Absolutely. If there wasn't antifreeze and the engine or radiator froze, the water expands when frozen and can burst pipes, radiator fins or crack the block, liners etc. Do you have any signs of dropped coolant/water?

I’ll check the pipes and for any leaks. And, I’ll look down the V.

It’s a 180 not 190. My mistake.

It's a 177 Rav

The 180 is an automatic version of the 190, both ZT tunes and not a Rover 75 version.

Look at the VED price for six months

And the donor car itself......

That particular car donated enough components to keep a further six on the road up to and including 2021, which in my view was considerably better than lining the pockets of the DVLA slush fund.

I’ve just poured another two 750ml bottles of water into the bottle just enough to cover the fins inside the bottle and it seems to have settled. I’m going to quickly fire it up and check it again in a couple of days. Can’t find any obvious leaks. Haven’t received the cover yet to look down the V.

If you literally submerged the fins, that's generally regarded as way over full. The official 'Full' mark is the floor level at the base of the fins. A millimetre or ten above that makes little difference, but a coolant level above the fins leaves little space for expansion during warm up to running temperature. I guess it's useful for the checking leakage rate when standing unused. However, it may be lower after driving simply because thermal expansion may force some coolant out via the pressure cap. That would be a false positive leak detection.

Ravinder,

If you look into your expansion tank when it's empty, you'll see a tab marked 'MAX'. It's towards the bottom of the tank and there's a 'MIN' marker as well. Maintain your coolant level between these.

As T-Cut warns, overfilling risks coolant ejection and you'll then be posting that you think your head gasket has gone!

Out of interest, if one does overfill the expansion tank above the 'Max' mark when viewed through the filling neck, where would the coolant get ejected to? Or do you mean it will find the weakest point in the system (i.e. a seal, hose or gasket) and make its way out.
