Just an update.
I tried various things suggested (even had a play with TOAF - was careful though!) and nothing seemed to work. Then, on Wednesday, my wife was driving the car and said that everything suddenly came back to life halfway through her trip! Things are still working.
I've been through the car again today and found water in the glovebox on top of the CD changer. I don't remember it being like that before, but could I just have a dodgy sunroof drain?

Richard, have you checked that the chamber where the ECM resides isn't flooded due to blocked drain holes?

Hi Simon,
Thanks for the hint. Yes, I did that. There was a bit of water in there but well below the ECU. I cleaned out the drains anyway.

Default Later Update

Eighteen months later - I think it's fixed!
The LCM (attached to the light switches) had some corroded connections and visible damage to the circuit board. Many thanks to Tom Force for spotting this and also coding in a replacement LCM during my visit.
It's all still working

Many thanks Richard for taking the trouble to conclude your thread after quite a long time!
