Luckily, there are a couple of Swedish sites online which have copies of all the Volvo parts manuals to get the Volvo part number, which is invaluable particularly where I have a short change over model that could have anything fitted.

I find Rimmers site annoying now since they refreshed it a few years back, they used to have breakdown of all the part numbers, which even if it was no longer available was handy for getting a part number to put into Google or Ebay.
Getting the right part isn't made any easier by incompatible part number listings either or at least if there is a general part number, using it!

I had the same problem with a Nissan Qashqai I was working on recently, when I told the motor factor he said you might as well tell me the colour as there is no chance of knowing what calipers and discs it has so he will send me all the options for that year and send back what does not fit. What arrived was 8 pairs of calipers and 10 pairs of discs. Superficially they all looked the same but mountings for calipers were slightly different and offsets for the discs were all different. How can this make sense on a production line?

I can remember back in the 80's when I had a Cortina I needed a new wiper stalk, the dealer wanted crazy money so I went to the scrappy and he didnt have one so he said go and get one off an Escort as they are the same, he was correct it even had the same part number. Surly this makes more sense that multiple models have the same part? Less stock, volume discount ect ect. Am I missing something?
