Ignition barrell illumination
Ignition barrell illumination, not sure if my mind is playing tricks on me.
I thought I saw recently that the MK1 ignition barrel was illuminated. Is the MK1 barrel illuminated? If I want to illuminate my mkII barrel, can this be done using parts from a MK1, what would I need and what year(s) of car would I need to take parts from as well as how would I make it work? thank you macafee2 Last edited by macafee2; 18th February 2020 at 06:47.. |

No illumination on the mk1, and don’t think there is any on MK2. Someone was going to see if they could get it illuminated. Can not remember who.

A basic set up would be easy to do. Wire an led (diffused would be a good idea - sand down the top) to the interior light and it will come on as you unlock or switch off the ignition. If you wanted to be fancy, you could wrap an led strip around the ignition barrel/immobiliser receiver ring, so it would glow from the gap of the column cover.

My X plate Rover 25 had an illuminated ignition barrel - not sure if it was trim specific as it was a 1.8 IXL auto. - it absolutely flew and had many an MG ZR away from the lights as there was no 1.8 badge on it.

My 1998 400 had an illuminated barrel. My dad's 2003 45 did not.

My wifes 1999216GSi has it and everytime I get into it I grit my teeth because the MGZT lacks it- it does help- although someone on another site likened them to as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle. Chris.S.
