Default Rover 45 'Tourer'

In case it helps neither Honda nor Rover ever produced a 45 Tourer, either in prototype or production guise. The issue was the subject of much web based debate a few years ago; AR online has the definitive story.

According to Richard Woolley, a Tourer version of the 400 was "talked about", although he has no knowledge of any being built. Therefore, it never came to pass, and a small but important market niche was surrendered when the R8 version went out of production.

However, that has not stopped other people from creating their own

Both pictures above are of owner conversions.

If theyd charged £100 a time to get what you wanted there would have been a queue out the door

I have spoken in the past to the former owner of the pre-facelift 45 Tourer, which was rebuilt as a facelift, and I am sure that he told it was the only one built at the factory (Longbridge of course), and as such was definitely a Rover and not a Honda (despite using a Honda bodyshell), and had a Rover wiring loom. It was a few years ago though, so I might be mis-remembering. The owner was the former Chaplin of MG Rover and so worked at the factory, and he was there until the company went bust.

They were not allowed to produce a Rover 4x4 for 10 years (From March 2000) though BMW failed to mention MG in the paperwork hense the MG Rexton!!

Well whatever the sale conditions were a 4X4 tourer would have been one hell of a machine whatever engine was in it.

Agreed. a Mk1 4x4 CDTi engine'd ZT Tourer would be my 100% perfect daily driver. I wouldnt care if it was mostly freelander under it either, lol. Some

It could so easily be done judging by the freelanders gearbox against the normal 75 opne, im 100% sure of it, I just wish I had the dosh to built a custom car, it wouldnt even be a ZT Coupe, it would be that,

I reckon the Freelander Running gear in a v8 bodyshell would be quite do able. Plenty of room for the prop and transaxle and the could use standard mounts for the v6. Would just need to prop shortening, exhaust and im sure a few clearance issues. But as a 4wd conversion goes pretty straightforward.
