It is a problem when looking for a new camera

You start with a few upgrades in mind and a budget.

You see a new feature and think, hey that looks cool, I want that.

You find 5 more cool features.

The price has doubled.

The 600D seems to be a bit cheaper than the 700D (on eBay anyway). Am I right that the 700D is the newer version of/replacement for the 600D?

Guess any 600's would be older, but is the 700 that much better?

If anyone is sticking with reading this, any ideas on the Panasonic Lumix? This looks like a lot of stuff for the money! (eBay link)

This is a mirrorless right? Lots of features, wifi etc (and can be controlled via an app apparently). Not sure if the lack of a kit lens would be an issue..... Quite like the idea of a variety of lenses, but equally remember the pain of carting round and constantly swapping a variety of lenses! Also, not entirely sure if I want second-hand or not (I know I said I was OK with it, but ....)

I know nothing of the newer Panasonics but the reviews look good.

It is a mirrorless with an electronic view finder. It is of the Micro / Four Thirds type, so smaller sensor.

I have not looked but I bet the kit lens should be available on ebay , maybe 50-100 pounds.

So many good cameras around all with different features and specs.

700d is an 'old' model, it was on sale when I left Jessop s two years ago. But it is a superb camera, and a bargain at that money.

The flip out screen is great, but remember two things. It will reduce your battery life compared to the 350d by up to 2/3 RDS, if using it constantly. But the biggest drawback although it is still good for what it is, is the auto focus speed. Particularly in low light or low contrast situations. Be prepared for that when it comes to pets or animals. On the whole it will be a great camera :-)

This bit... As 90% of what we take photos of is our dogs (!) a fast auto-focus is probably essential!

Do you know how fast the Nikon D3200 linked to above is by any chance? (or where I can find the stats! )

Remembered today that we used to have Nikons at work before I left (Medical photography) so I do know a bit about them

That is a nice looking package.

I am a Canon and Nikon man. I bought a Nikon D5000 which came with a VR 18-55 and Sigma 300mm from a Jessops shop only to discover that it was to be discontinued 2 months later. An odd experience as the manager wanted to show me his 'girlie' photos he had round the back. Another OC member was with me and can verify this. We wondered if the manager was on drugs or drink, as he was buzzing. I was annoyed that I had been sold a camera package for £750 and no whiff that it was going to be discontinued. I complained to the company about the deal. Fair dues, I was compensated with a £200 voucher. So if a package is attractive, I am a bit more wary than I was previously

Getting back to your question. I have had some great results from the D5000 particularly for action photography and panning wild life shots in Africa

The other camera I use is a Canon SX40 HS Superzoom Bridge Camera which has on board image stability and operates in manual or many other modes. What I like about it, is that it is lightweight and saves me from carrying around the big lenses. It does not have an optical viewfinder - a disadvantage in taking fast action panning photos.

Teflon has a mirrorless camera and has produced some excellent results.

The d3200 is quite 'old' too, I am canon too. But don't be put off. How often will you be down on the ground, using the flip out screen? The flip out screen is very fast for what it is, and you won't get many better, however it is an age when compared to the viewfinder.
