A little different to when I was in Bucharest a few (well 15) years ago, after the end of the "honeymoon" period after the assasination of Caucestcieu (?), when the petrol stations constantly had half-mile queues - when they were open.........

That has reminded me that I visited Romania many times between 1977 and 1981, working on turnkey projects at the Dacia car factory, the BAC111 and RR Spey licenced projects. I saw many amusing incidents, for example, one trolley bus attempting to overtake another (think about it!). Unfortunately no photo - carrying a camera in E. Europe in those days was considered a bit dodgy and I was always under suspicion from both sides. (Remember Matrix-Churchill!)

I must say that I was always very happy to return home, it was a bit grim in those days! The journey could be tedious, I drove out there a few times because the hire cars were continually breaking down and I could also take all manner of western goodies with me.
