Cool V8 ECU problems

My V8 has had an ongoing problem for the last 3 weeks. The EML light is constantly on. The car has been to MJS twice. The second visit they managed to get the light to go out after doing yet another battery re-set. 24 hours later the light was back on.

I then took the car to British Legends in Southend on MJS's recommendation, and now have been told by them that the fault lies with the ECU. They brought in a auto electrician who removed the engine ECU, and checked it for a corroded pin but the unit was clean and totally dry.

Been over on the 260's forum and asked for help. New units are no longer available. But there is a garage in Greenwich, Sinspeed, that does ECU repairs. But I'm not a 100% sure whether to take the car there or not. I have pm'd MarinaBrian, and am awaiting a reply. In the meantime does anyone else have any suggestions on what to do.

Many thanks for the kind offer. I will contact Big Russ but I'll give Brian a chance to get back to me first.

Might be worth contacting member 75.0, I know he got an ECU recently (I matched the immobiliser up on it so the car runs) , not sure if that was an mg rover one, or if it was just a stock ford Mustang unit.

Regards
Chris

The EMS ECU on a V8 is a Standard Ford unit, you can use an ECU from another V8 without any programming as it's not paired with the immobiliser

On V8's the immobiliser is paired with the Gateway ECU

My V8 has the Kenne Bell supercharger fitted. Would that make a difference re the ECU.

Not sure if the ECU is different or if it uses a piggyback board on the original
It could be either.

Not easy to check either on a V8 as you have to take out the passenger airbag and pull forward the dash at that end to get it out
