Default Key transponder chip

Replaced the casing on my second key as had holes in where the buttons where. Upon opening realised the transponder chip was missing! So the second key will unlock the car but will not start to ( I get engine disabled message) when i try to start. Fortunately I have another key that does work but ideally would like to get the spare working too. What do I need to do? I've seen various threads about having to send off to BMW for £200 and have it re-programmed etc

You could PM Philt4 or Marinabrian who will be able to assist you.

Remove your immobiliser, and post it special delivery to anyone who offers the replacement key service, myself included , and it will cost you less than a quarter of the BMW price

How does that sound?

It is a little grey box, that looks like this........

It's located behind the light switch, bolted to the A pillar with TS30 five point security Torx plus.
