Default Brake lights on all the time

I’m guessing that there is a problem with the switch at the top of the brake pedal?
Had a quick look tonight and the sprung metal arm moves as it should but I got my hand up to the switch and the whole unit moved inside the metal aperture so as soon as you release the brake pedal it seems to move the whole switch unit rather than the sprung centre piece.
New switch?
It looks a real pain to do.

Have a look at fuse 13 first, if that has blown your brake lights will be stuck on.

Default brake light switch

If it turns out to be the switch, buy a BMW marked one from a proper source such as Rimmers or DMGRS.

Do not, under any circumstances whatsoever, be tempted or persuaded to buy a pattern part from a Factor. They do not work and will cause you endless confusion.

Kind regards.

This is a mystery. The fuse was missing. Popped a 5 amp fuse in and it’s all back to normal. How on earth did that disappear?

Vics car came in with battery lamp glowing dimly.

Didn't bother checking fuses as Vic said there was a spare Alternator in the boot!

Also the windings on the aftermarket one fitted looked burnt.

Turns out Fuse 14 was missing!
Most weird fault we've ever had.

It was my fault fuse 15 was missing as we pinched it to get the alternator working!
(no spares to hand)

We finished this job quite late as were in hols very early next morning.

Apologies to Vic but I think he's got a fuse thief in his street

That's quite common Ian

Sellers ot dealers take the fuse out to shut the noisey fan up when the low speed has failed.
Silly really !!
