Default noisy petrol pump

2004 75 1.8 82,600 miles.
Yesterday petrol pump was a little noisy.
Last night called RAC out as wouldn't start.
after checking electrics on pump decided it was stuck, hit with hammer and started ok. Was told the slightly noisy fuel pump was a sign it needed replacing. I took some visiting friends home 14 mile round trip without stopping the engine as advised. Use car daily taking wife to work.

Where to get a pump and get it fitted?

My under bonnet pump on my cdti became noisy and yes - this does indicate pump failure.

I scanned the guys who Trade parts on here and got a good S/H one for £20.

Fitted it myself and it’s been working fine for nearly 2 years now.

So I recommend doing the same and also posting on the wanted section.

Edit - just noticed you’re in Totton - M27 closure willing - you could try Silverlake recycling- I have found them quite good.

82K miles is nothing for a petrol pump, so I think it's very surprising to be near the point of failure. Just to satisfy my own suspicion, do you have the Fabled Orange Clip fitted to the filter module?

Just looking in to this for Tony.
Looking on rimmers they suggest the part number for the pump is Wf101160, but is no longer available.
However looking on eBay, searching for this part number I am getting a lot of listings that say this is the pump for the diesel (insert only, not the complete assembly)
Can anybody confirm/deny that the actual pump is the same?
If so, then the pump only seems cheap enough at £38
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182430522285
And i have a spare of this pump. However what i don't want to happen is to try and start this job, and then find that the cross reference is wrong, and the pump doesn't fit (frustrating for both Tony and me)

The other alternative would be to go for an assembly, but that is almost double the price

Anybody able to help?
(I am going from the description Tony has given of the symptom, and the fact that i have seen this car previously, and it has had a few occasions where the fuel pump did not run, but swapping the fuel pump relay, and cleaning the contacts, in case they were dirty, seemed to resolve the issue, but with hindsight could have been the first signs off the pump failing)

Thanks
Chris

I believe the diesel and petrol pumps are not interchangeable.
I suspect the best way to get a replacement is to find a second hand one from one of the forum dismantlers, a scrap yard, eBay, etc.
