I had a letter this week from the NHS asking if I could come out of retirement, retrain for 3 months and go back to work. After 30 plus years of having worked in the NHS, I feel it’s lovely to be asked but I am not in a rush to get back into it.
A photo of a charcoal drawing from a humanitarian work trip to Russia in 1998. When it was done, I was inappropriately dressed for April, wearing a Seersucker lightweight suit freezing my nuts off, hence the austere expression Beautiful memories ...... |

I used to work outside, in all weathers, often in shirtsleeves and drenched to the skin because I was too busy to put a coat on! Nowadays I'm constantly checking the thermometer, ache in every nook and cranny when the weather turns and only go outdoors when I have to! I used to jump out of tractor units without using the steps, change commercial tyres with tyre levers (not machines) and think nothing of handball trans-shipping full loads from one 40'0" box van to smaller vans for distribution (Pallets? What are they?)!
