OBD Scanner
Good afternoon all,
I'm on the hunt for a OBD Scanner for an '02 diesel. I had one a couple of years ago but it never connected to the car. I'm hoping one of you learned people will be able to make a recommendation. I replaced my intercooler earlier in the year, not realising what a negative impact it would have on the performance. I want to fit a manual turbo boost controller. To successfully set it up I shall need to be ablento see live data of the turbo boost pressure. Many thanks in advance, Rob

Am afraid i seem to recollect that an 02 diesel is not OBD compliant whilst 02 petrol and earlier petrols are - sure someone will confirm - TOAF maybe the way to go.

Thank you,
I won't suppose you are able to explain what TOAF is? I have seen it mentioned on here multiple times but never really paid much attention. I presume it is software to download onto a laptop then I'll need a cable to connect to the OBD port?

Now ONLY for OBD2 port compatible cars (thanks to Grivas for pointing out):
You can download the free diagnostic software on your laptop indeed; https://toaf.roverki.eu/index.php/pl/ One needs a cable, I bought this one which is working fine without any modifcations to make: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174768878115 Next to that, and ONLY for OBD2 port compatible cars (thanks to Grivas for pointing out), I downloaded a app for android, "Torque" named. One would need: OBD2 Mini ELM327 Bluetooth V2.1 Adapter - Diagnose Auto Interface for this. I bought it here in Holland: https://www.bol.com/nl/nl/s/?searchtext=OBD2+Mini+ELM327+Bluetooth+V2.1+Adapte r+-+Diagnose+Auto+Interfac but you can search for it on Ebay too. The first scanner I use on my laptop at home, the tiny wireless mini obd scanner I have one in each of the cars, to be able to have a check in combination with my mobile phone when I am on the roads or on holiday with the car. Just in case. If you put OBD scanner in the search bar, you will get a lot of info from here. There is a list of fault codes explaining what the codes the software finds are meaning, so you know what to do. Good luck and let us know what you have decided to do. Cheers. Emiel

Not apparentely, so it only counts for OBD2 port compatible cars. I will point this out in the reaction. Thanks for letting me know.

I'd recommend you download TOAF, install it on your laptop, take your time and experiment - it's very good, and not hard to use.
BUT if you're going to modify any of the car's settings, make sure you know how to back the relevant file up first...

Sadly IT isn't one of my strongpoints. But I would only be using it to measure the boost pressure while I adjust the boost control valve to bring it back to standard.

OK, maybe not then... err on the side of caution I guess. Not absolutely certain it can do that anyway - maybe Vitesse or somebody else can comment. Sorry!

Keep well But agree that for a basic OBD reader Toaf is the one to get (free/easy to use), and as long as the OP just uses it in "read" mode then no harm will be done. Last edited by vitesse; 10th November 2022 at 10:43.. |
