Hi.

Just got my renewal come through for £465, (last year it was £256) with exactly the same conditions, fully comp, wife as named driver, 11 years NCD no driving convictions same 75 etc, with the AA. Went on line and got a quote for £230 (with the AA) which I was prepared to pay but when I phoned up and queried the price difference got it down to £217. No bad.

How on earth did they justify such a price increase in 12 months??!

No idea.
I have just done another check with the AA on line and that came out to £356!! Strange, but have paid the money, the insurance documents arrived this morning and have checked the details and all correct.

Well I've just come off Admiral..... originally insured with them for my Rover 420SDi which was written off. My banger of a Mondeo they insured for £130 as I got a serious discount as the writeoff wasn't my fault.

Changed to my MG ZT190+ and the renewal was £800-odd!!! Swiftcover came to £400 via confused.com, requoted using QuidCo and got even more off!

It seems almost all insurance companies hike the renewal price, my guess is they hope that we will cough up as it is easier than shopping around. When questioned they all will advise starting a new policy, usually via the web, to get a proper quote.
Most will also price match any other company.
So in my case from a renewal notice of something like £480.00, insuring with same company on new policy £360.00, price matching another quote £240.00. Figures are approximate as can't remember exact but I am paying slightly less than half the original renewal notice cost with the same insurer.

I tried to get Admiral to price match but the lowest they would go was £600.

Thanks Jamie. I'll give them a bash.
